Dear Riverview Families:

I want to wish a Happy New Year to all Riverview families. We have a lot to be thankful for right now. First, thanks to generous parent and community support, the media center has received $120,000 for new library books. Secondly, we will have a new school within the next two years. This is truly an exciting time to be a part of Riverview High School.

Before the holiday break, Mr. Ashton’s American History classes visited the media center to examine important people, places, and events in our nation’s history. The students were able to take advantage of the new books on the shelves. Currently, some of the IB students, with their teacher Mrs. Feasley, are researching the historical and literary elements of the play Hamlet, Mrs. Murphy’s junior English students came to the media center for book circulation. It is encouraging to see lots of activity during the first month of the new quarter.

I have received a generous grant from the Education Foundation to initiate a reading program titled Grow a Forest of Readers. It is adapted from a similar program of the Ontario Library Association. Two classes of juniors will participate. Weekly reading related activities will be held in the media center during lunch for a month. Hopefully, the program will increase into more class participation for the next school year.

I want to give a special thanks to our parent volunteers Linda Wilson and Belinda Hidalgo, who should have sprouted angel wings by now! One of our parent volunteers, Cheryl Slack, moved to New York during the holiday break. She did a wonderful job in the media center, and she will be sorely missed!

I hope that this term is a productive one for your Riverview student.

Sincerely,
Melinda Sutter MLS
Media Specialist
